Bubba Ray Dudley : Bio
The Dudley Boyz were never supposed to be the most successful tag team of all time. When a family of bumbling, bespectacled Dudleys debuted in ECW during summer 1995, they were a goofy alternative to the Philadelphia-based organization’s more hardcore fare. But in November of that year, the Dudley clan gained a bruiser in Bubba Ray.
Bubba Ray and his “brother” D-Von ran roughshod over the ECW tag team division throughout the duration of their four-year run with the organization. They won the ECW Tag Team Championships an astounding eight times and became the vilest villains in the company’s history in the process.
In 1999, Dudleyville uprooted itself to the center of the WWE Universe, where Bubba Ray and D-Von continued to flourish as a unit. Now squaring off in iconic matches and feuds with the likes of Edge & Christian and The Hardy Boyz, the most decorated team in ECW history soon became the most decorated of all time. Even after WWE acquired WCW in 2001, an influx of new talent couldn’t stop the Dudleys from winning.
The duo captured a total of eight World Tag Team Championships — one more than Edge & Christian — plus one reign as WWE Tag Team Champions when they became the first team to hold both of WWE’s sanctioned tag titles. Bubba and D-Von also unified the WCW and World Tag Team Championships in late 2001 and are recognized as the final WCW Tag Team Champions.
Bubba and D-Von left WWE in 2005 and fans did not see either in a WWE ring until 10 years later in 2015, when Bubba Ray made a surprising and memorable appearance in the Royal Rumble Match. The Royal Rumble cameo was simply an appetizer, however, as Bubba Ray and D-Von reunited on the Raw after SummerSlam to take out The New Day, making a definitive statement that they were back and ready to reprove their dominance.
The Dudleys now have another reign as WWE Tag Team Champions in their sights, but they could not take the titles from The New Day at Night of Champions, as interference from Xavier Woods allowed his team to retain by disqualification. The next night on Raw it was announced that The Dudley Boyz will receive a rematch for the championships in Madison Square Garden on October 3, live on WWE Network. However, history repeated itself when Woods interfered yet again on behalf of The New Day, denying The Dudleys another title reign.
Most recent, despite of the fact that Xavier Woods had been side lined after being put through a table earlier in the week on Raw, The Dudley Boyz could not dethrone WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day at Hell in a Cell.
Though they were not able to dethrone The New Day, The Dudleys remain vigilant in trying to recapture the WWE Tag Team Titles. However, Bubba Ray & D-Von were sidetracked by The Wyatt Family, who set their sights on the veteran tandem. Outnumbered and outgunned by the massive clan, The Dudleys enlisted the help of Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno to even the odds, but could not overcome the titanic Wyatts in an 8-Man Elimination Tables Match at WWE TLC.
Bubba Ray and D-Von have wrestled in nearly every major organization and reigned supreme in each one. Whether fans embrace their antics or despise their vile malice, the Dudleys win no matter where they go.
